President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after attending the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in New York. The president, thereafter left for  London.

On Friday, Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, had said his principal would return to the country on Monday.

However, he did not disclose the reason for the UK visit, fuelling the speculation that the trip might be health-related.

In this year alone, Buhari has spent at least 153 days receiving medical treatment in London.

While at UNGA, Buhari called on the international community to devise strategies to stop the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq (ISIS) from infiltrating the Lake Chad Basin.

Nigeria, Niger and Chad are among countries in the basin, where Boko Haram and its affiliates are a threat.

Buhari had also said the international community must be “mindful and focus on the widening inequalities within societies, and the gap between the rich and the poor nations”.
