Chelsea demolished Barnsley 6-0, with new boy Kai Havertz getting off the mark with a hat-trick.
The German midfielder scored in the 28th, 55th and 65th minutes to record the first hat-trick of his career on his third match in England.
Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Ross Barkley got the other three goals in the match played at Stamford Bridge.
At the King Power Stadium, it was Arsenal who came out top with a 2-0 win over Leicester City.
An own goal by Christian Fuchs in the 57th minute looked likely to be the only goal of the encounter until Eddie Nketiah grabbed a goal in stoppage time.
Everton, visiting Fleetwood Town for their own fixture, were 2-5 winners over the side with Richarlison grabbing a brace, while Alex Iwobi, Bernard and Moise Kean completed the rout.
Newcastle United were at their very best at Morecambe, crushing them 7-0.
Joelinton grabbed a brace while Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Jamal Lascelles, Isaac Hayden and an own goal from Sam Lavelle completed the rout.
