Conclude your primaries before October 7, INEC tells political parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday reiterated that the deadline for political parties to conclude their primaries for all elective positions remains October 7.

INEC restated the reminder in a statement signed by Solomon Soyebi, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee in Abuja.

According to the electoral commission, the decision was made at the end of their weekly meeting on Thursday.

The statement read, “INEC wishes to restate that the conduct of primaries and resolution of all disputes arising therefrom must be concluded on or before Oct. 7 as earlier published in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2019 general elections.”

INEC also announced a deadline of October 18 for the submission of candidates’ names and their details for the Presidential and National Assembly elections and November for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

“The last day for submission of lists of sponsored candidates (Form CFOO2) and personal particulars (Form CF001) remains Oct. 18 for Presidential and National Assembly and Nov. 2 for Governorship and State Houses of Assembly”, the statement read.

The electoral management body disclosed that 89 of the 91 registered political parties gave notice of their desire to conduct primaries for elective positions as required by the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

INEC said it would only accept the list of candidates submitted by the National Chairman and the National Secretary of political parties.
