Couple arrested for sending thugs to beat up child’s teacher

Police in Ogun State have arrested a couple for allegedly invading Toyon High School, Ere Village, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area with thugs to beat up their son’s teacher.

The teacher, Abel Thomas had beaten the couple’s ward, Joshua Joseph, a Senior Secondary School(SS3) who later went home to report to his parents.

The couple, Oyedele and Elizabeth Joseph, on hearing their child’s report, immediately mobilised some thugs and stormed the school where they beat and injured the teacher.

They also damaged the back screen of a Toyota Corolla with registration number: LSD 395 FV belonging to another teacher of the school, Jolayemi Sunday.

The couple were arrested on January 18, 2022, following a distress call received by policemen at Ado-Odo/Ota divisional headquarters.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi said that upon the distress call, the DPO Ado-Odo, SP Arowojeun Michael, quickly led his men to the school where the couple were arrested while their accomplices escaped.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the teacher, Abel Thomas, moderately corrected an SS3 student of the school by name Joshua Joseph who then went home to inform his parents that he was beaten by the teacher.”

“Having heard from their son, the parents who felt that the teacher has no right to beat their son for any reason mobilised some thugs and stormed the school.”

“On getting to the school, they descended heavily on the teacher, beat and injured him. They also damaged the back screen of a Toyota Corolla with registration number LSD 395 FV belonging to another teacher of the school Jolayemi Sunday.” he added.

The Police PRO stated that the injured teacher had been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Lanre Bankole has ordered that the escaped thugs, who accompanied the couple to attack the school should be hunted for and brought to justice. He also directed that the arrested couple should be charged to court without delay.
