Manchester United’s top four ambitions took a huge blow as they were thrashed 0-4 by Everton in Sunday’s Premier League game at Goodison Park.

This is the first time Everton have scored four-plus goals in a home league game against United since a 5-0 win in October 1984.

Goals from Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott, subjected United to their second consecutive defeat after losing to Barcelona on Tuesday.

Everton got the opener in the 13th minute through a superb acrobatic volley from Richarlison from six yards.

In the 28th minute, Everton went on a counter before Sigurdsson unleashed a terrific shot from distance which flew past David De Gea into the bottom corner.

United made two changes before the start of the second half, with Ashley Young and Scott McTominay replacing Fred and Phil Jones.

The changes, however, had no impact as Everton went 3-0 up in the 56th minute as Digne hammered in a volley after De Gea had punched away a corner kick.

And in the 64th minute, Walcott made it 4-0, sliding the ball under De Gea’s arm after he was set up by Sigurdsson.

United have now gone 11 games without a clean sheet in all competitions for the first time since November-December 1998.

Today’s defeat also makes it their fifth consecutive away loss, the first time since 1981.

United remain sixth on 64 points in the Premier League table, while Everton are seventh on 49 points.
