Health Workers Protest

Nigerian Health workers under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government to meet their demands or face a nationwide strike action.

Comrade Biobelemoye Josiah and Comrade Ekpebor Florence, the national chairman and secretary of JOHESU respectively, said the government should urgently revisit the constitution of the membership of the boards of all the Federal Health Institutions.

They are protesting the exclusion of their members from the boards, which they claimed violates the Teaching Hospital Act. According to them, the Act provides that a representative of health providers must be appointed on all the boards.

The unions said their exclusion violate the terms of agreement reached with the government on September 30, 2017, upon which the latter promised to redress the perennial lopsided composition of the boards of the FHIs.
