The Senate sitting in Abuja, has commenced investigation into an alleged N600 billion cost of collection withheld by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The probe was prompted by a petition written by the Legislative Watch, a non governmental organisation to the Senate.
The Executive Secretary of the organisation, Mr. Ngozika Ihuoma who appeared before the members of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public petitions said for over 10 years the two agencies have not been remitting the cost of collection to the federation account.
A document made available to the Senate by Ihuoma showed that Customs received N350bn and FIRS got N250bn in 10 years through the cost of collection.
