Lagos state government, on Sunday announced the discovery of a two-year-old lion in a residential building in the Victoria Island area of Lagos State.
The lion, said to be owned by an unnamed Indian national, was discovered acting as a security guard at 229, Muri Okunola Street in the Victoria Island area of the state.
According to Yinka Egbeyemi, Chairman of Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences, the state government was informed of the lion’s presence after concerned Lagosians residing around the location made a report.
Egbeyemi explained that security operatives had been stationed around the location since Friday, adding that efforts were ongoing by the state government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to evacuate the animal from the building.
The task force chairman said the animal would be tranquilised on Monday and subsequently transferred to a zoo.
He added that the Indian national who owns the lion has been invited for questioning.
