President Muhammadu Buhari will dissolve the Federal Executive Council (FEC) before his inauguration for a second time as Nigeria’s leader, Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesperson, has confirmed.
Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, made this known in an interview on Arise TV on Thursday.
President Buhari was declared winner of the 2019 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after he polled a total number of 15,191,847 votes, being the highest number of votes among the 73 candidates.
According to the presidential spokesperson, President Buhari will hold a final meeting with all members before he officially dissolves the cabinet ahead of the expiration of his first tenure on May 29.
“That mandate lapses on May 29, and shortly before May 29, the president is likely going to officially dissolve his government. That is the way it is usually done.
“He says ‘thank you’ to everybody that he has called to work with him and then he dissolves that government officially.
“Then when he is inaugurated for a second time, he now reconstitute a government; he appoints his personal aides, he forms his cabinet, he appoints other people to fill other positions,” Adesina said.
The FEC is made up of the president, vice president, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Service of the Federation, Ministers and Special Advisers.
