Sule Lamido Visits Obasanjo, Seeks Support Over Presidential Ambition

Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, on Monday, visited former president Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The ex-governor said he visited Obasanjo to seek his support for his 2019 presidential ambition.

Lamido, after a two-hour closed-door meeting with the former president at his residence, told journalists he is contesting next year ’s election due to what he described as “despair and poverty” across the country.

He said the situation of the country required urgent intervention.

He noted that he had to consult Obasanjo, whom he described as his ‘father’ for advice and support before throwing his hat into the ring.

Lamido said, “Yes, I am aspiring and as a result, I must discuss that with my father, Baba Obasanjo”.

“In Nigeria, when they say who is Baba’s son(Obasanjo’s son), they say it is Sule Lamido. And as a result of this, I have only come to my father to seek guidance and as well talk about Nigeria, and to still tap from his wisdom about Nigeria.”

Talking about the situation in the country, Lamido added that, “I see that there is no hope for this country.”

The former governor expressed happiness at the spate of defections to the Peoples Democratic Party. He stated that “in a political party what you need is followership and when people are coming into your own party, you should be happy and even celebrate.”
