“It is understood that [Blatter] suffered what has been called ‘a nervous shock’ but is expected to make a full recovery,” reported BBC Sport.

image“Blatter is set to remain in hospital until next Tuesday after being admitted initially for a check-up last week,” the report added.

Blatter who is 79 is currently serving a 90 day suspended in the wake of a criminal case of financial misconduct at the soccer’s governing body.
His 17-year tenure as FIFA’s president will come to an end in February, following the election of his successor, for which there are seven candidates.

His position as FIFA president became untenable as the governing body continued to be investigated in recent months, and he announced his prospective resignation from his post shortly
after being re-elected back in June.

Blatter was suspended along with UEFA President Michel Platini as a result of an investigation into a €2 million (£1.35 million) payment made to the Frenchman for consultation work.

In a statement relayed by Stohlker on Wednesday, Blatter said: “I’m the elected president of FIFA, elected by the FIFA Congress and its 209 members, and no committee can replace me.” Blatter, who has denied any wrongdoing, is accused of making a “disloyal payment” of 2 million Swiss francs ($1.99 million) to Michel Platini, who is currently suspended from his role as head of European soccer, in 2011, and cutting a television rights deal that was detrimental to FIFA.
