Tanker causes inferno on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, seven vehicles burnt

An array of vehicles were gutted by fire earlier today after a petrol tanker spilled its contents on the Lagos-Badagry expressway between Barracks and Onireke in Ojo Local Government.

According to reports, the fire started some minutes after the tanker had been evacuated with its flammable liquid still on the scene.

The inferno reportedly started around 5:00 am and it was said to have been ignited by the exhaust of a passing vehicle.

No fewer than seven vehicles have been confirmed burnt, including a truck conveying crates of drinks from a Brewing company.

Eye witness reports suggest’s that the poor condition of the road contributed to the problem as subsequently burnt vehicles would have avoided the incident.

No lives were reportedly lost, but it was confirmed that vehicles worth millions were totally razed.

Further eye-witness reports indicates that the drivers were trapped in the scene because of poor illumination at the time.

Residents complained bitterly about the state of the road and how it has made movement quite difficult for them and also passing vehicles.

They further stressed the fact that they hope this incident would draw the attention of authorities towards repairing the roads that link that axis.

The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Adeshina Tiamiyu, comfirmed the explosion and said no life was lost.

Tiamiyu also confirmed that aside the vehicle that ignited the fire, six others were totally burnt.
