In a new wave of crime, armed goons dressed in police uniform have continued to rob motorists on Ibusa/Asaba road in Delta State.
A victim, Mrs Stella Odeh, who boarded a commercial tricycle on her way to Ibusa narrated her ordeals.
She said was going to Ibusa on a tricycle when two men dressed police uniform ordered the tricycle rider to stop, when they alighted so that they can be inspected their money, handsets and jewelries were taken from them and the goons fled when they raised alarm.
She said that the robbers were heavily armed and they have females in their gang who are dressed in police uniform to search unsuspecting passengers in tricycles at gun point to rob them of their belongings.
The police commissioner in the state, Mr Alkali Baba Usman, who said the allegation are false, however, agreed that Ibusa and Umunede communities have been flash points of a robbery syndicate, saying that the police would do all they can to bring the hoodlums to book.
Meanwhile, a suspected armed robbery kingpin identified as Jossy Ekoh, has been arrested in Umunede by the police detective in the area.
Police image maker in the state, Mrs Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest of the robbery kingpin, said the police acted on a tipoff that a robbery operation was going on in a house within the community as the suspects held their victims and the family members hostage. She said that the police moved quickly to the scene and arrested the 25- year- old suspect who interestingly is the leader of the robbery gang while the others escaped into the bush
