Third victory for Bello as tribunal dismisses LP petition

It is a third consecutive for Governor Yahyah Bello, as the Kogi State Election Petitions Tribunal led by by Justice Halima Mohammed, on Wednesday, dismissed another petition challenging his election.Yahaya Bello

The candidate of the Labour Party in the November 21 governorship election, Philip Salawu, a former deputy governor of the State had in the petition claimed that the election that produced Bello was marred by irregularities.

Like in the other petitions, he also complained about the manner Bello was chosen as the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate after the death of the original candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu.

But the tribunal in the unanimous judgment held that Labour Party did not prove the allegations of electoral malpractices.

It also dismissed other grounds on which Salawu challenged the election of Bello for lack of merit.

The tribunal had on Monday dismissed the petition filed by James Faleke, a fellow APC member against the election of Bello.

On Tuesday, the tribunal also dismissed the petition of former governor of the State, Captain Idris Wada who contested on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.

However, trouble is not over for the Kogi governor as the tribunal will also rule on the petitions of  Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) the African Development Party (ADP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before the end of the week.
