Tottenham are set to firm up their interest in Saido Berahino with a bid for the West Bromwich Albion striker in the next 48 hours, sources told ESPN FC.
As revealed last week, Tottenham were preparing a bid for Berahino after making the England Under-21 international their striking target this summer.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking for striking reinforcements with Emmanuel Adebayor poised to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan and Pochettino is a big admirer of Berahino, having considered a move for the 21-year-old in January.
Berahino, who scored 20 goals last season, is regarded as one of the best young players in the Premier League after impressing for club and country in the last 18 months.
Pochettino could partner Berahino in a new look strike-force alongside Harry Kane as Tottenham were forced to rely too heavily on Kane for goals last season.
West Brom are hoping to keep Berahino and are ready to offer the player a new deal which would double his wages from £15,000 to £30,000 a week, sources said.
Tottenham are now ready to test West Brom’s resolve to keep hold of their star striker by tabling an opening bid of £12 million.
However, West Brom are likely to reject the opening gambit as they reportedly value Berahino in the £20-25m price bracket.
