Buhari mourns 22 Bauchi students, teachers who died in Tuesday accident

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his condolence to the Government and people of Bauchi State over the death of 22 students and some teachers of Government Day Junior Secondary School, Misau, Bauchi state.

The students and three teachers died on Tuesday in a ghastly motor accident on their way from Kano after an excursion trip.

The bus conveying the victims collided head-on with an articulated vehicle along Kano to Gaya road in Kano state on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of 11 male and 10 female students, as well as their teachers.

There have been conflicting reports of the exact number of casualties. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi, Abubakar Najume, however, said a total of 25 people died in the accident. He said two teachers, 22 pupils and the driver of the bus conveying them died.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Kamal Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however said 23 people died in the accident while spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, Magaji Majia, said 22 people died.
